Loudun is in an ideal base for visiting the Loire Valley and the local attractions of La Vienne region.
Take a walk ( or cycle) into Loudun or ......
La Vienne and the surrounding areas are full of interesting walks and wildlife. La Chabotterie is on the route of one of the signposted walks recommended by the local commune: ‘Le Sentier Des Belles Vues’ - see the walks link - copy leaflets are available in the house and gite to use or to take away.
Another great nearby walk is ‘Le Pe De Jojo’, going up the hill next to the local aerodrome. Roughly translated, this means 'the foot of Jupiter''; there is a little bar at the club there that is open to all. The walks are marked and have information boards with notes of interest and information on local legends, historical events and folklore along the way.
If you go out by car, a nice walk is ‘La Ligne Verte’, a disused railway line that has been replanted with regional plants and trees with information posts and quiz questions along the route. In season, there are cherries, apples, walnuts etc., to pick and eat as you walk. The walk is through open countryside and we have seen deer cross La Ligne right in front of us as they roam from the fields on one side to the other.
We provide lots of other information on local walks in the main house and gite.
Our location is also packed with birdlife plus it is central for specialist locations for waterfowl, seabirds and woodland species. We also have Binoculars that you are welcome to borrow.
